Basic hardware
A simple $1 frame form the dollar store, plus the screen out of a clamshell DVD player that stop playing DVDs, and a Raspberry Pi B+.
Basic software
The Pi is running Chromium in kiosk mode and displaying a webpage hosted from my home server. I plan to open source the frame web code.
Connect it to our alert system
We configure the webpage to display our most recent alerts from our home AI.
Now it's coming together
We have a picture slide show and alerts displaying for X amount of time.
Strengthen the mounting
We'll glue the display and supporting boards in place.
Hold the back on
To keep the back on, we're still using rubber bands.
Last look
Next was to enclose the back of the frame. Sadly the monitor died after several weeks of faithfully hosting the frame.
