As We Build A Dog Wheelchair

We're building a FiGo Wheelchair for Bear!

Little Bear needs a wheelchair

By Aaron Judy posted May 29, 2017

We're building a FiGo Rear Support Wheelchair for a furry friend of ours in need.  Bear's rear legs aren't strong enough for him to move about like  other dogs.  Considering we recently built a 3D printer, we decided to jump in and try and improve Bear's locomotion.

Make your own FiGo Dog Wheelchair, head over to Thingiverse.com.  Artist Rickee, has shared the models and instructions for building a wheelchair for your furry friend in need, CLICK HERE.

We did make some changes and notes to the original recipe.

  1. The axle bolts will need to be cut shorter.  You'll need to file the cut bolts to thread in the acorn nuts.
  2. The parts can be printed at once if your printer is large enough.
  3. You could replace the arcylic tubing with polycarbonite tubing if the animal is smaller.  It's not as strong, but is cheaper and slightly lighter.
  4. Tiffany added the awesome twisted leash effect inside the tubing!  It really changed the over all look.
  5. Tiffany also changed the padding design a bit for comfort and easy cleaning.  She made a small removable pillow with extra fleece case and a removable velcro leg brace pad.
  6. We added two large washers free spinning between the wheels and the printed PLA framing.  That's to prevent wear and warping from friction.
